One powerful biblical principle is found in Ephesians 4:22-24 that I call the Put on Put off Principle.

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.


The Lord tells us to put off the old man and put on the new man. I imagine it like clothing. When I go down to the barn for chores, I get dirty and I smell like manure. When I come in the house, I need to put off the stinky, dirty clothes. Now I need to replace those clothes with clean, freshly smelling clothes. It is the same with our thoughts. We put off the stinking thinking, but we can’t leave our mind empty or naked, we need to fill it with Godly thoughts.


Ephesian 4 goes on to say in verse 29 . . . Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.


Oh, ouch, did that strike a chord with you like it did with me? Please don’t think that I have this put off put on principle mastered. It is a constant battle between the old man and the new man.
