July Scripture Writing Challenge - Encouragement: Getting Back on Track When You Feel Overwhelmed, Discouraged, or Like an Imposter

If you're anything like me, you know that life can sometimes get overwhelming. Between homeschooling the kids, trying to keep up with the household chores, and finding time for your own work-from-home job, it's easy to feel discouraged and like an imposter. Maybe you've started to question whether you can really do this. Maybe you're struggling to stay motivated and keep your focus on what truly matters. I've been there, and I understand how you feel. But let me assure you—you're not alone, and there's a way to get back on track. Today, I want to share some tips that have helped me when I've felt discouraged, overwhelmed, or like I just couldn't do it anymore.

1. Get In and Stay in the Bible

The first and most important step to getting back on track is to immerse yourself in God's Word. Our minds can easily become clouded with negative thoughts, doubts, and fears. But God's Word has the power to renew our minds and give us the strength we need. Ephesians 4:22-24 tells us to "put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."
Take time every day to read and meditate on scripture. This month's Scripture Writing Challenge is a perfect place to start. One of the verses we're focusing on is Psalm 55:22: "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Reading the entire chapter can bring peace to your heart and remind you that God is your refuge.
Here’s a little habit that I’ve found helpful: each morning, write down the scripture verse for the day. Then, take a few moments to jot down five things you're thankful for, five prayer requests, and five goals for the day. This simple act can refocus your mind and remind you of God's goodness and faithfulness.

2. Serve Others to Get Out of Your Own Head

One of the quickest ways to shift your perspective and lift your spirits is to serve others. When we take our focus off ourselves and our own problems, we can show others the love of Christ. Matthew 20:28 tells us, "Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."
There are so many ways you can serve. You could prepare a meal for a family in need, volunteer at your church, or even reach out with a kind word or prayer for a friend. I find that when I serve others, my own problems don't seem quite as overwhelming. And remember, the Lord sees your heart and your service. Hebrews 6:10 assures us, "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."

3. Persevere: Sometimes You Just Have to Do It

There are days when you might not feel like reading your Bible, praying, or pushing through your daily tasks. But perseverance is key. James 1:12 encourages us, "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him." Sometimes, you just have to put one foot in front of the other and trust that God will give you the strength you need.

4. Reach Out to a Titus 2 Woman

Finding a mentor or a godly woman in your church can be a tremendous blessing. Titus 2:3-5 teaches us that older women should "teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." These women can offer wise counsel, encouragement, and prayer support. Be humble and open to seeking their guidance. Their experience and wisdom are priceless.

5. Take Care of Yourself

As busy moms, we often put our own needs last. But self-care is not selfish—it's necessary. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and it's important to take care of it. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating healthy, and taking time for physical exercise. Even a short walk outside can refresh your mind and spirit. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself allows you to better care for your family and serve others.

6. Remember God's Faithfulness

Lastly, never forget God's faithfulness. Hebrews 13:5 reassures us, "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." When you're feeling discouraged, look back at your prayer journal or notes. Recall the times God has answered your prayers and provided for you. This practice will remind you that God is faithful and that He is always with you, even in difficult times.
