When You’re Told “No”: How God Uses Rejection for Protection
What if the door that just closed was never meant to be opened?
Not long ago, I walked through a situation that felt like a setback. I applied for a coaching role I was excited about. I passed the first round of interviews and thought, “This must be it.” I envisioned the impact I could make, the women I could serve, and honestly, the income it might bring to our family.
But when the next round of interviews rolled around… my name wasn’t on the list.
I watched as several friends in the Christian coaching space moved forward. I wasn’t jealous—I was genuinely happy for them—but I couldn’t help but wonder:
“Lord, why not me?”
That moment could have led me into a spiral of doubt.
But instead, I chose something different.
I chose to rewrite the story I was telling myself.
Rewriting the Story of Rejection
So often, we assume rejection means failure. We think a “no” means we did something wrong, didn’t pray hard enough, or somehow missed God’s will.
But what if that’s not true?
What if God’s “no” is a protection—His divine way of guiding us away from something that would have distracted us, drained us, or delayed the work He’s called us to?
Romans 8:28 reminds us,
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
God Sees What You Don’t
We only see a small piece of the picture.
But God sees the whole story.
That coaching role I didn’t get? It would have pulled me in a direction that, in hindsight, would’ve created unnecessary pressure during an already full season. God knew that. And now, I’m able to serve you—Christian work-from-home moms—through this podcast, coaching calls, and scripture writing challenges that bring me joy and keep me centered.
Psalm 84:11 says,
“No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
So if God withheld it, maybe it wasn’t truly good—for me, for now.
Waiting Isn’t Wasted
We all have waiting seasons—those in-between moments where things feel silent.
The interview ends. The email never comes. The opportunity fades.
But friend, waiting is never wasted when God is the One holding the pen.
Galatians 6:9 reminds us,
“Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Maybe you’re in a season like that right now.
You’ve applied, posted, pitched, prayed… and still, no breakthrough.
I want you to hear this:
You are not behind. You are being prepared.
What Story Are You Telling Yourself?
If you've recently faced rejection, ask yourself:
- Am I calling this failure… or faith-building?
- Am I clinging to what I wanted… or trusting in what God wants?
- Am I listening to shame… or to the Shepherd?
Proverbs 3:5–6 encourages us to trust the Lord with all our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding. That includes our understanding of disappointment.
Rewrite Your Story Today
You get to choose the narrative.
And with God, your story doesn’t end in rejection. It ends in redemption.
Let Him rewrite the “no” into a greater “yes.”
Let Him lead you toward the door that opens to more peace, more joy, and more purpose than you ever imagined.
